Richard Juryn - Event Organizer, Shore Events and Mountain Biking/Sport Advocate

Richard was a long time North Vancouver resident, father of two and an adventure-racing competitor, acting as the North Shores' outdoor advocate. In 2002, after 18 years in the Hi Tech sector, Richard started an event production company, Shore Events, organizing large-scale consumer, mountain bike activities in Whistler. Events included the Tim Horton's Mountain Bike National Championships in Whistler, Whistler Blackcomb's summer mountain biking event "Crankworx" and non-profit cycling shows in North Vancouver. He is one of the founders of the Northshore Mountain Bike Events Society.

In the fall of 2003, Richard founded and produced the North Shore World Mountain Bike Festival and Conference in an effort to help to ease some of the issues the area was experiencing. The conference has grown to be one of the largest conferences focused on recreational trail access.

His next step was establishing a partnership with the International Mountain Bicycling Association, for the World Mountain Bike Conference. Richard successfully joined forces for the combined IMBA Summit/World Mountain Bike Conference in Whistler, BC, 2006.

Sadly, Richard was killed saving a fellow adventurer in Porteau Cove, October 2007. He is missed by his friends, cohorts, sporting teams and family - wife Jill Warland-Juryn, daughter Tahnee and son Parker including his mother Pam Juryn, all of North Vancouver."

In loving memory of Richard
